NOORDKADE - The Transformation of HI Ambacht

Client: Stemar, Get Gripp
Architect: RoosRos
Description
The Noordkade in Hendrik Ido Ambacht has undergone a dramatic transformation, evolving from a simple waterbus stop into a dynamic and lively square. On either side of the stairs leading to the waterbus dock, two large multifunctional buildings have been constructed, contemporarily echoing the industrial, maritime, and robust character of the site.
On behalf of Den Dunnen, we installed over 3,000 m² of Schüco curtain wall, including some semi-structural sections, as well as double doors. These installations provide stunning views of a historic ship crane, the square, the pedestrian area, the waterfront, and a wide staircase to the north. To reduce solar gain, Gevex Professional Sun Protection installed 377 cassette roller blinds, suspended freely and electrically controlled.
The biggest challenge of this project lay in the facades where they meet and separate. Thanks to close collaboration with our client, as well as between the engineering and implementation teams, this project was successfully completed, drawing attention with its distinctive architectural lines.
