2AMSTERDAM - A New Future For 2 Office Giants
Amsterdam (NL)
Stakeholders
Client: Provast for Commerz Real
Architect: KCAP BV
Description
Two imposing office buildings from the 1980s located on the Zuidas in Amsterdam are getting a new lease on life. Provast has developed one of the towers into a high-end hotel for the owner, Commerz Real, offering stunning views from the sky bar. The adjacent building has retained its office function.
The project, designed by Rotterdam-based agency KCAP, adheres to the strictest BREEAM sustainability standards. The design highlights that, although the two towers have distinct functions, they form a cohesive whole.
We equipped both towers with prefabricated facades using Schüco elements. Schüco curtain wall systems were installed at the entrances and in the intermediate area (garden facades). Additionally, a large atrium with a glass roof in the office tower allows natural light to penetrate deeply into the building.
The continuous glass facade not only ensures visual unity between the two buildings but also connects the "base" where the lower layers of the two structures meet to create physical continuity.
